Technical and Solutions Architect
Your Responsibilities:
-
Working closely with the CTO and Chief Engineer you will lead and be accountable for all solutions / end to end design activities for projects across the systems engineering and development lifecycle within solution domains.

Working with well-understood technologies you will translate business visions, goals, objectives and high-level commissioning requirements into system designs.

You will take ownership of solutioning activities for major opportunities within delivery programmes and manage the solution design process from initial concepts through to transition into operations.

You will provide confidence to stakeholders that solutions will achieve their scope, time, cost and quality objectives, and realise their benefits.

You will own the end to end solution architecture for allocated projects, identifying and engaging all stakeholders, suppliers and delivery teams that need to contribute.

You will develop elements of technical strategy, roadmaps and vision that align to board approved business cases, policies and wider Enterprise standards.

You will make design trades and decisions characterised by managed levels of risk and complexity.

You will provide Technical Design Authority and Governance for technical solution architectures for allocated programmes and projects.

You will resolve technical disputes between wider peers and indirect stakeholders, taking into account all views and opinions.

You will maintain effective relationships and deal openly with all key stakeholders, taking into account the needs of all stakeholders.

You will provide technical consultancy for new initiatives, to assist in the definition of business requirements or technical strategies.

You will ensure proposed solutions are aligned with key non-functional requirements relating to, amongst other things, resilience, availability, performance, and scalability.

You will identify and monitor disruptive technologies in opening up innovative opportunities.

You will steer the development and continuous delivery pipelines for Scaled Agile and DevOps initiatives.

You will provide team leadership with the ability to motivate and mobilise individuals outside reporting lines.
Desirable Skills:
-
BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or related field.
-
Results-oriented, self-starter, capable of working independently and within a team environment to meet deadlines.
-
A track record in leading or developing high quality, enterprise class solutions using a structured system development lifecycle.
-
Experience of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or MODAF to support systems delivery.
-
Ability to model solutions using notational standards of UML and Archimate 3.0.
-
5+ years of experience in a design authority, technical/solution architecture or systems engineering role.
-
Appreciation of Agile development methodologies including SAFe, DSDM & SCRUM, DevOps and continuous methods.
-
Experience working across multiple solution domains such as; Application Architectures, Infrastructure, Security, DevOps Engineering.

A superior attention to detail.

Strong analytical, problem solving and organisational skills.
-
Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team.

Experience in establishing a project plan and facilitating the setting of priorities.
-
Experience working with Central Government, particularly in Defence or Security.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent inter-personal skills.

Willing to work outside of normal business hours to get the job done and to travel if required.
Demonstrable subject mater expertise in one or more of the following areas:
-
Cloud architectures AWS or Azure.
-
AI and Data Sciences. Machine Learning techniques and algorithms; especially Neural Networks, Decision Forests, Anomaly Detection.

Knowledge and skills in the use of current state of the art machine learning frameworks such as Amazon AI, Scikit-Learn, H2O, Keras, TensorFlow and Spark, etc.

DevOps Engineering and Technologies. Terraform, Docker, Ansible, Python, Jenkins, Agile Methodologies

Enterprise Application Architectures and Frameworks (Java EE, Spring, C++, C#, .NET etc).

Middleware and Integration: Oracle Fusion Middleware, SOA Suite12c, WebLogic, Portal, UCM, SOA, OSB, BAM, BPM and Oracle web forms. Experience with some of the following products: WebSphere, Jboss

Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Cassandra etc.

Network and Information Security Architectures.​

Tactical and Deployed ICT systems.
